DEPARTMENTAL OVERVIEW
PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT
One of the hubs of the organization, the production department
is responsible for the manufacture of LATT’s range of products.
The department is made up of four distinct units : TLA production
operations, Bitumen Emulsions Operations, LASCO plant operations
and TLA blend production plant operations. The company’s TLA
Pelletization Plant that is to be installed and commissioned
in the first quarter 2005, will also form part of the operations
of the department.
Most of the company’s current operations are based on its core
product, TLA, as both the LASCO range and TLA blend are by products
of TLA. The company’s Bitumen Emulsion Plant however, uses bitumen
as its base product and produces a high quality range of cationic
bitumen emulsions.
ENGINEERING
DEPARTMENT
The Engineering Department supports the manufacturing arm of
the organization. This department provides technical services
in respect of installation and maintenance of process equipment.
The department ensures that there is adequate and reliable supply
of utilities (steam, air, water and electricity) and provides
a number of services in respect of general repairs works.
RESEARCH
AND TECHNICAL SERVICES UNIT
The Research and Technical Services (RTS) Unit at LATT provides
the technical support to the Organization. It is responsible
for the technical aspects of the operation and provides services
from Quality Control, solutions to challenges in the field and
technical support for distributors and clients in all areas
where the Trinidad Lake Asphalt (TLA) is used.
Research
and Development is a most crucial part of the RTS Unit and projects
are conceptualized with a view to providing solutions and enhancing
the use of TLA and finding new uses. Research projects are also
initiated with a view to expanding the product base and business
streams for the company.

UNITS
CARIBBEAN
ASPHALT PRODUCTS BUSINESS UNIT
Caribbean Asphalt Products (CAP) Business Unit is responsible
for marketing and sales of all LATT’s products in the local
and regional markets. This unit has as one of its medium
to long term objectives, the establishment of regional businesses
which will may have satellite operations throughout the
region. The Unit has the exciting task and challenge of
moving the positioning the company as one of the most significant
businesses in the region for asphaltic products.
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS UNIT
The international business unit is responsible for the development
of international business through joint ventures, alliances
and the administration of our distributorship network. The
IBU works along with an International Advisory group and
strives to continue the development of the organization
in respect of the development of a global mindset.
FINANCE DEPARTMENT
This department is responsible for payroll, accounting,
information technology, purchasing and all other financial
services of the Company. The department is charged with
the responsibility of ensuring that adequate internal systems
of control are in place to ensure the long-term viability
of the company. Information systems is a critical asset
and this unit is support the growing network of computerized
operations within the company.
CORPORATE SERVICES
This department is comprised of a number of units that provide
support to the operational areas of the organization. Among
the support services are employee relations, security, safety,
human resources, corporate communications and legal counsel.
The department’s mission is to provide effective corporate
administration services to assist the company in the achievement
of its strategic objectives as well as to select, retain
and train a productive, motivated work force.

The company takes very seriously, its corporate responsibility
to the community in which it operates as it is the main
employer in the area. The department is therefore responsible
for ensuring that the relationship between the company and
the wider La Brea community is a healthy one.
